This was our second champagne tasting challenge. We enjoyed the first one so much, pre-Covid, that we wanted to go again. This time there were many more people and a different presenter.
The champagnes were all lovely and it was great to receive a handout, detailing the various aromas evident depending on the type of wine and its age. However, apart from trying to pick these ourselves, there was no group discussion about the champagnes; what we could perhaps smell/taste and why that might be. After each flight of 4, the participants were asked to rate their favourite champagne although there was no discussion on why and what might be the characteristics of the most popular choices.
The presentation centred around the various champagne houses and production techniques.
Serves were generous and the champagnes were of the highest calibre; with most champagnes around the $100- $150 mark and the Cristalle over $500. Discounts were offered for wines purchased on the night and a door prize on the offing for those purchasing 6 wines or more.
Bread provided throughout the evening and the quiche and salad were yummy and the support staff were quietly efficient and attentive.
